Some Mimics are hatched better than others, mastering simple three-dimensional shapes and materials within hours, and able to shift their forms completely at will by maturity. They also have advanced communication ability, compared to regular Mimics, and use these abilities to prey on more clever food, even sometimes using their own kind as bait to lower an enemy’s guard. Superior Mimics have an Intelligence score of 9, and can understand and speak Common, albeit with a squelchy accent. They can adopt the form of almost anything they choose, and have natural armour equivalent to full plate, by hardening their exterior. They often conceal themselves by pretending to be warriors, who help to battle off other Mimics infesting an area, and then turn on foes who underestimate them. When viewed with magical perception, this item throbs with tremendous potential. Once per day, when used as an additional arcane focus for an arcane spellcaster, this item Empowers the effects of the spell, adding +50% to any effects based on the caster’s level, which may include the spell’s damage, range, duration, or other effects. Each time it is used, the Deathstone has a 5% chance of exploding after the spellcasting has been completed, causing 10d6 damage to the caster with no saving throw.
